TWO men fled in a getaway car after a crash in a stolen vehicle seriously injured an elderly woman.

West Yorkshire Police was called to a collision in Cemetery Road, Yeadon, near Leeds Bradford Airport, at 2.07pm on Thursday.

It was near the road's junction with Haw Lane.

The crash involved a white Vauxhall Corsa, which was heading towards East Carlton, and a blue Citroen DS5 heading in the opposite direction.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service was also called to the scene and dispatched a single ambulance.

A passenger in the Citroen, a woman in her seventies, was rushed to Leeds General Infirmary.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said she suffered "serious injuries that were not considered life threatening".

They added: "The driver of the Corsa and another man left the scene before the arrival of emergency services, having been picked up by a white Seat Leon. 

"The Corsa was subsequently reported as having been stolen in a burglary in Manor Close, Yeadon."

Members of the public reported that the road was closed for several hours while the situation was dealt with.

Officers are investigating the crash and burglary and have issued an appeal for information from the public.

"At 2.07pm yesterday, police were called to a road traffic collision in Cemetery Road, Yeadon, at the junction with Haw Lane. 

"A white Vauxhall Corsa, which was heading towards East Carlton, had been involved in a collision with a blue Citroen DS5 travelling in the opposite direction. 

"A passenger in the Citroen, a woman in her seventies, was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment to serious injuries that were not considered life threatening.
