A Bradford man is “relieved this nightmare is over” after he was acquitted of conspiracy to rape.
In May, 2021, the Telegraph & Argus reported that a total of 29 men, including five from Bradford, had been charged in connection with child sexual exploitation, mostly in the Calderdale area.
One of them was Nazim Hussain, 46, of Bradford, who faced a charge of conspiring together with another person unknown to rape a female under 16 years of age in 2003.
Mr Hussain has since been acquitted of the charge and is focusing on rebuilding his life. The acquittal happened at Bradford Crown Court in November 2022 and details have now emerged after the conclusion of linked matters relating to other defendants.
Abdul Iftikhar, the solicitor who had conduct of Mr Hussain’s defence case, said: “We are pleased that justice has prevailed in the case of Mr Hussain who had vehemently denied the allegations from the outset. This was clearly a case of mistaken identity.
“Mr Hussain is relieved that this nightmare is over and is now focusing on rebuilding his life. Finally, he wishes to thank all family and friends who believed in his innocence and supported him throughout this ordeal.”
A spokesperson for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said: “The CPS has a duty to keep all our cases under constant review.
“In this matter, further material was presented to us by the police which we considered carefully. In light of this we concluded that we could not continue with the prosecution. We therefore informed the Judge that we would offer no further evidence, and the Judge directed the jury to return a not guilty verdict.”
