HEAVY snow is included in the latest Met Office weather forecast for Bradford

Arctic air is bringing cold weather to the UK after a mild start to November.

A Met Office yellow warning for snow and ice in West Yorkshire has already been issued - this starts at 10am tomorrow and ends at 10am on Tuesday.

According to the latest Met Office forecast for Bradford - updated at just before 7.30am today - heavy snow is predicted tomorrow at 7pm, 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm and midnight, before light snow is expected at 3am on Tuesday.

The forecast is subject to change.

Daytime temperatures will struggle in Bradford and elsewhere in the UK over the coming week.

The UK Health Security Agency has issued a cold health alert covering Yorkshire and the Humber from this morning through to Thursday.

It states that weather conditions are likely to have minor impacts on health and social care services, including increased use of healthcare services by vulnerable people and there is a greater risk to life of vulnerable people.

People are encouraged to take extra precautions to keep safe while the alerts are in place, such as checking on vulnerable friends and neighbours, keeping food and medications in stock, and ensuring homes are adequately heated.

Drivers are also being warned amid the first cold spell of the season.

Chris Wood, of the AA, said: "During late autumn, as well as checking all your lights and tyres (including the spare), it's very important to maintain clear vision.

"Top up the windscreen wash with a good quality, purpose-made additive to reduce the chance of freezing.

"While you're at it, run your finger down the wiper blades to check for nicks and tears, as they tend to last for two years at the most.

"Also give the windscreen a thorough clean, inside and out, as a layer of grime quickly builds up and you'd be surprised what a difference it makes at reducing dazzle."

RAC Breakdown also warned drivers to look out for the effects of a cold spell on car batteries.

RAC Breakdown spokesperson Alice Simpson said: "Frost, ice and snow all put more strain on car batteries so if a vehicle struggles to start, it's either a sign that the battery needs charging or that it’s about to fail altogether and needs replacing.

"We strongly suggest drivers get their battery checked by a mobile mechanic or garage as soon as possible.

"Taking your car for a 30-minute drive before you need it and switching all electrics off when you finish your journey are effective ways to reduce the chances of an unwanted flat start.

"In freezing conditions, it's also well worth packing a blanket, warm waterproof coat and gloves, sturdy boots and a mobile power bank for all eventualities."
