FOUR females have been arrested after a crash on the M62 left a man in hospital with serious injuries.
West Yorkshire Police said a car failed to stop for officers on the M621 as it travelled towards the M62 at Birstall at around 2.55pm yesterday.
A police chase ensued.
According to West Yorkshire Police, the car, a white Toyota Corolla, drove "at speed" on to the M62 westbound carriageway, heading towards Manchester.
Shortly after 3pm, the Toyota reportedly collided with a Peugeot 306, just before junction 24 on the westbound carriageway.
The Peugeot driver, a man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson described his condition as "critical but stable".
The four female occupants of the Toyota have been arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle.
At this stage, police have not confirmed their ages or where they are from.
The M62 was shut in both directions from junction 24, for Huddersfield, and junction 25, for Brighouse, for several hours following the crash.
It is now fully open again.
West Yorkshire Police has notified the Independent Office for Police Conduct about the incident.
