PART of the M62 is likely to remain closed for several hours after what has been described as a "serious collision".

The motorway is shut in both directions between junction 24, for Huddersfield, and junction 25, for Brighouse.

A National Highways spokesperson said shortly after 4pm: "Collision investigation will be taking place and the road is likely to remain closed for several hours. 

"Emergency services, including West Yorkshire Police, are in attendance.

"National Highways traffic officers are also on scene to assist with traffic management."

They added: "Traffic caught within the closure is being released via the rear of the queue.

"Please remain in your vehicles and await instruction from the police or a traffic officer."

Diversions will be in place, with road users advised to follow the hollow diamond diversion symbols.

The National Highways spokesperson previously described the incident as a "serious collision".

It was first reported just after 3.15pm.

The air ambulance, land ambulance, police and firefighters have all been in attendance at the scene of the incident.

At this stage, no further official details have been released.
