Grateful couple thank man who helped them reach BRI

Keith and Joyce Plows, of Menston, sent a letter to the T&A describing their difficulty getting to an appointment at Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI) on time as they were struggling to find a parking space. 

But they were touched by the kindness of a stranger.

Mrs Plows wrote: “On Tuesday, October 22, my husband had an appointment at the BRI at 11.15am.

“We left home at 9.30am to find somewhere to park.

“He spent a good hour, going round and round with nowhere to park.

“He tried again and saw a small space at the end of Smith Lane.

“When we saw how far we had to walk, we both said: 'Can we do it’?

“He is disabled with a very bad knee. He can hardly walk and needs an operation on his leg.

“He’s 84 and I’m 88. I said ‘I will try to get to the hospital to tell them you are on your way’.

“I was a good way from him when I turned to ask: 'Are you ok?’

“He was talking to a young man in a car.

“He waved at me to come to him, and the young Asian man asked if he could help my husband.

“My husband told him: 'We have an appointment at the hospital’.

“We both got in his car, he drove us to the door and got out to help my husband get out of the car.

“I said: ‘Can I give you some money?' He told us he did not want any payment and drove off."

That is when the Menston couple contacted the T&A to appeal for the man to get in touch with them so they could personally thank him.

“Talk about a gentleman,” said Mrs Plows. “We just got in his car and took us right to the door.

“There’s no way we would have got there. We would have had to go back to our car and come home.

“We wanted to pay him but he just said: ‘No, it was my honour’. That’s so beautiful.

“We wanted to cry. I’ve never known such kindness.

“He was such an angel and a wonderful man.

“We just want to thank him in person and tell him that we are so grateful.”
