A Hollywood-themed ball is set to raise funds for a Bradford neonatal unit.

The Bradford Neonatal Ball will take place on Saturday, November 23, at Cedar Court Hotel.

The black-tie event aims to celebrate the families and babies of Bradford Royal Infirmary's Neonatal Unit, while raising money for Bradford Hospitals Charity's Neonatal Appeal.

Bradford Hospitals Charity's Neonatal Appeal seeks to enhance current facilities by creating a new 'Home from Home' facility for parents and siblings, enabling them to spend more time with their babies while they are patients.

The Appeal's funds are intended to go towards five more bedrooms (to add to the existing five for relatives), as well as a large kitchen diner, a prayer room, and a laundry room.

Neonatal senior sister, Andrea Firth, who is leading the organisation of the ball, said: "The ball will be a sparkling tribute to everyone involved in the unit, as well as our parents and babies who make everything we do worthwhile.

"I’m overwhelmed by the support I have had from parents, doctors, and nurses who have bought tickets and am incredibly grateful to the local businesses in Bradford for their support through sponsorship.

"Parents and staff are very much part of one team in the Neonatal Unit and this event will celebrate that, while raising money to help parents of the future."

The Neonatal Unit cares for around 750 premature and sick babies every year, with one in 10 of all babies born in Bradford requiring admission to the unit.

The unit takes newborns from all over the Yorkshire and Humber region and staff provide intensive care treatments to babies born as early as 22 weeks.

Head of fundraising for Bradford Hospitals Charity, Lisa Williams, said: "We are so grateful to Andrea Firth and the neonatal team for taking the time to plan and organise the Hollywood Charity Ball.

"Funds raised at the event will be to support the Charity’s Neonatal Appeal, which seeks to create a nurturing sanctuary, adjacent to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Bradford Royal Infirmary, offering families a comforting space to stay close to their newborns during this emotionally charged time."

The ball will include a red carpet arrival, a glass of fizz, and a four-course dinner.

Tickets are priced at £60 and the dress code is black tie.

The first Neonatal Ball took place in 2018 and raised £15,000 for the charity’s neonatal fund.
