CAN anyone throw light on what is taking place in this picture?
It shows a parade of so-called cleansing ponies in Hammerton Street yard, Bradford, in 1938.
The animals are all neatly harnessed up for what looks like an inspection.
Maybe their purpose was to pull dust carts or water containers for street cleaning.
It is interesting to see the cobbled yard and the corrugated iron sheds surrounding it. There are four children sitting on a wall in front of one of the sheds watching the proceedings.
The tall wall in the background possibly stands between the yard and the railway line.
