A MAN who breached community orders he was given after stealing radiators from a former nursing home has avoided jail.

Anthony Peel, 38, of Crediton Avenue, in Allerton, Bradford admitted failing to comply with the requirements of a community order at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court on October 31.

This was the second community order put in place by the court for Peel for the same offence - trespassing at the vacant Southfield Nursing Home, in Belton Close, Great Horton - which closed in August 2022 - and stealing radiators on or about February 5 last year, according to court records.

He was handed a 12-month community order for burglary dwelling and theft, which included 250 hours of unpaid work, £85 in costs, and a surcharge of £114 to fund victim services.

Peel breached this order by not attending unpaid work appointments on May 2 and May 5 this year and was back in court on May 30 where another community order was put in place for the breach.

He failed to turn up to another unpaid work appointment on June 4, according to court records.

The prison sentence is 16 weeks, suspended for 12 months - meaning if Peel commits an offence within the next year, he could be sent to jail for 16 weeks, as well as any extra time depending on the crime and how the court deals with it.

Court records said the reason for a custodial sentence was due to Peel's "flagrant disregard for court orders".

The sentence also includes 250 hours of unpaid work, which is to be completed in the next 12 months and supervised by the responsible officer.
