A RESIDENT has hit out at firework debris being left strewn across a park in Bradford and dogs feeling "terrified" at the constant use of the devices for more than a month.
Bradford Council said its crews are "out tidying up after Bonfire Night" and hopes "to get these spaces back to normal as soon as possible".
The resident, who wished to remain anonymous, took his two-and-a-half year old Rottweiler, Barney, out for a walk in the Eccleshill area for the first time in two weeks yesterday.
He claims fireworks will often begin at 4pm in the area and "carry on to two or three in the morning".
He added: "It's always been an issue in Bradford, it's been virtually every night for the last six weeks."
It is "night after night" and dogs are being left "terrified" and "frightened", according to the resident.
When the resident arrived at Eccleshill Recreation Ground, off Post Office Road - a spot he describes as being popular with local dog walkers - he claims he saw around 100 firework remnants.
The resident said: "There's a lot of burnt-out fireworks, stumps strewn everywhere.
"I've got a dog myself and I know lots of other residents do."
There was also "the associated paraphernalia", such as McDonald's wrappers, cans, and laughing cannisters, as well as "lots of tyre threads" at the park from scooters, according to the resident.
A spokesperson for Bradford Council said: “While many people are responsible and do dispose of debris left over from their bonfire night celebrations, unfortunately some people do not and leave their rubbish behind.
"We understand that this is very frustrating for those people who are using parks and open spaces.
"Our crews are out tidying up after bonfire night and we hope to get these spaces back to normal as soon as possible.”
It comes after a number of troubles in the Bradford district over last weekend and in and around Bonfire Night.
Eight fire crews came under attack, with arrests made, including a man in Holme Wood after police caught a group of youths throwing fireworks and eggs at passing cars.
West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said it took 1008 calls and attended 77 incidents that were related to bonfire celebrations over last weekend, with a further 260 calls and 235 incidents attended by 10.30pm on Bonfire Night.
Police officers were called to reports of fireworks being thrown at an ambulance which was attending a call that evening, while shocking viral footage seemed to show yobs riding down Great Horton Road last Saturday firing rockets into the road.
The resident in Eccleshill says the mayhem over the past six weeks has had a detrimental impact on Barney.
He said: "Mine's vomited from the stress, because he's just not eating."
The resident added: "He's vomiting with reasonable frequency.
"He gets stressed, he doesn't eat, when they don't eat, bile is vomited up, then you're not supposed to feed them anyway.
"He can't sleep properly, I can't sleep properly.
"He rarely sleeps through the night nowadays, and spends a lot of time running around crying.
"He also seems a bit scared of going outside generally, since the problems have started."
