WORK to turn a busy junction into a public space and “pocket park” has been completed.
As part of a transformation of Bradford city centre, the junction of Little Horton Lane and Prince’s Way has been closed to traffic since Spring while work is underway to reshape the area.
Work to plant vegetation, turf and add benches to the site, as well as create new steps to the Media Museum, is now complete.
The site, next to Bradford’s war memorial, has now been completed ahead of this weekend’ Remembrance Services. It will mean that the poignant service will now take place in a more pedestrian friendly space rather than next to one of the busiest junctions in the city.
Other work to take place in the city centre this week includes planting in the numerous new planters created, including on Market Street and Broadway.
Work to turn a stretch of Hall Ings into a new city centre park – effectively extending Norfolk Gardens, was also ramped up this week. As well as green spaces, new pedestrian and cycle paths are being laid in this new park area before planting begins.
Fencing in the area between St George’s Hall and Britannia House will be moved back slightly next week, with landscaping work beginning on the raised and ground level planters in this area.
New cycle stands have been installed on Market Street, and more street furniture will be installed here in the coming weeks.
The work is part of the Government funded Transforming Cities Fund. The vast majority of work is due to be completed by December, although planting in Norfolk Gardens is expected to continue through January.
