Why is Malham Landscape Trail among best walks in autumn and winter?
The Malham Landscape Trail has a moderate difficulty level and an elevation of 980m.
AllTrails experts shared: “The Malham Landscape Trail winds its way through riverside paths, waterfalls, sweeping views, and fascinating geology.
“Though rocky, the route is prime positioning to take in Yorkshire Dales' autumn air and hues.”
Parts of its profile on AllTrails reads: “Starting at the pay and display car park in Malham, the trail heads over the farm fields and beside Goredale Beck to Janet's Foss, a picturesque pool and waterfall, and the legendary home of the Fairy Queen.
“The trail continues along the road and over the campsite along an out-and-back path to Goredale Scar, a deep and atmospheric ravine with high overhanging cliffs and waterfalls.
“The terrain here is rocky and very slippery in wetter and icy conditions, so take care with your footing.
“Further along the trail, there is the option to detour up the hill along a very rough and steep path to the viewpoint above Gordale Scar.”
It adds: “The trail winds its way ever higher and over a stile to the interesting rocky limestone pavement above Malham Cove.
“There are amazing views from this position but great care is needed over the very cracked and uneven surface and along the high cliff edges, especially if out with dogs.
“The trail then descends a long and steep path with numerous stone steps which can be very slippery and worn.
“Take your time here to avoid slipping and falling on this section.
“Eventually, the path leads to the final gem along this trail: Malham Cove, an impressive amphitheater-like formation of limestone cliffs that were formed by water erosion during the Ice Age.

One AllTrails account left a review that said: “A wonderful walk, not overly strenuous aside from the first initial steps! Dog owners be aware of the deep cracks at the top, but overall, and amazing day!”
Another walker posted: “Second time we’ve done this walk, amazing both times. Lots of interesting things to see, toilets available, parking, dog friendly. Highly recommend.”
