A MAN in his 20s has died after a crash in a West Yorkshire village.
West Yorkshire Police officers were in the Normanton area when they sighted a black Audi A7 around 1.26am on Tuesday (November 6).
The officers indicated for the Audi to stop but it failed to do so, sparking a chase along Ferry Lane towards Altofts, said West Yorkshire Police.
The Audi crossed a bridge over the canal before leaving the road on Birkwood Road and colliding with a fence.
The driver, a man in his 20s, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Meanwhile, the passenger, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been arrested. He remains in police custody.
No officers were injured, a police spokesperson confirmed.
The incident took place following a police pursuit - leading the force to refer itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
West Yorkshire Police is now appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have captured video footage leading up to the fatal collision to come forward.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the force's Major Collision Enquiry Team (MCET) by calling 101 or using the live chat facility on the website.
