Location, Location, Location TV star Kirstie Allsopp joked that she was now embroiled in The War of the Roses after news of her visit to Ilkley sparked a strong reaction on social media.

The presenter, who also fronts Love It Or List It with long-time property TV partner Phil Spencer, got herself into hot water after singing the praises of one of Ilkley’s stores.

She also spelt the name of the town wrong, for which she later apologised.

She said on X, formerly known as Twitter: “I’m moving to Yorkshire, I’ve discovered Booths, how I went this long without knowing about it I’ve no idea, but the one in Ilckley is a revelation.”

People took her to task for thinking that Booths was a Yorkshire-based company — it was actually founded across the Pennines in Lancashire.

Jonathan (@jedw) reprimanded the star: “Wrong Shire... You want Lancashire! we have most of the Booths stores as it was founded here!”

But Joanne Doherty (@jowadders01) hit back: “She’s moving to Gods own County - favoured by the big man! She’s at the right side of The Pennines!”

Kirstie later joked in a post: “Now I’m in The War of the Roses."

She added: “Staggering number of replies to this post, an extraordinary indication of a shop that is clearly adored. Apologies for misspelling of Ilkley.”

And went on to praise Booths for its stock and business model, saying: “Clearly all shops need to study @BoothsCountry. I am totally stunned by the number of positive responses to one tweet, even though I misspelled Ilkley and thought Booths was based in Yorkshire.”

Kirstie is believed to be in Ilkley filming for one of her TV shows. Earlier she talked in a post on X about the high cost of housing in the area.

She said: “I’m in Yorkshire viewing a 1216 sq ft mid 50’s semi, with 4 beds, it sold in 2001 for £124,000, in 2018 for £350,000 & is now on for £495,000. This is not sustainable (and mucking about with SDLT isn’t going to solve the problem) we have to take a really radical approach.”

SDLT refers to Stamp Duty which will affect more people from April following the Labour Government budget last week.
