PEOPLE across the Bradford district have been treated to some fantastic official fireworks displays in recent days.

The weekend saw a series of organised displays held in various parts of the district, with many sports clubs stepping up to the mark to arrange the festivities.

As has been the case for the last 10 years, Wilsden Cricket Club attracted a large crowd with its Bonfire & Fireworks Extravaganza.

T&A Camera Club member Mark Ellis was on hand to capture some of the action on camera and said: "Wilsden Cricket Club put on a fab display of fireworks earlier this eve."

Rawdon Cricket Club also got in on the act, putting on a display of its own for delighted onlookers.

Those who took the trouble to find a higher vantage point were able to enjoy a fantastic views of displays in towns such as Keighley and Otley.

Daz Allon, another T&A Camera Club member, said: "Had a pop up to Surprise View, Otley Chevin to try and capture some firework shots. The place was very busy due to The Royalty pub having a firework display, which I didn't know about, so I found myself taking photos of that display as well as zooming in on the event at Otley RUFC.

Onlookers were impressed by the dazzling displays, with those who attended the Otley Rugby Club event also able to find warmth next to the bonfire.

Vivienne Hills was able to get a superb view from a distance, stating:  "I watched the firework display in Keighley from Riddlesden!"

The enthusiasm among the public for organised displays comes at a time when the authorities are keen to encourage people to take safety very seriously enjoying fireworks.

Concern has been mounting over the misuse of fireworks by those who choose not to attend the more formal displays.

Writing in today's T&A (see p29), Bradford South MP Judith Cummins described Bonfire week as "one of the most challenging periods for our emergency services."

Ahead of Bonfire Night, she joined West Yorkshire Police on the beat for an evening patrol to support their work first hand and saw how a multitude of agencies and organisations have all been planning for months to deal with any incidents of anti-social behaviour as quickly as possible, to ensure communities across Bradford are free to enjoy Bonfire Night.
