CONCERNS have been raised after "reckless" behaviour by yobs on a Bradford estate on Halloween night.

West Yorkshire Police said officers were called to anti-social behaviour in Thorpe Edge estate yesterday evening.

A spokesperson for First Bus confirmed objects were thrown at buses - but nobody was injured.

A resident also claimed a large number of "balaclava-clad lads" came on to his street at around 8pm, shooting fireworks at houses and committing other anti-social acts.

"It was intimidating," they said.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Police responded to a report of anti-social behaviour in the Thorpe Edge area last night.

"Officers from the local neighbourhood policing team at Bradford East are working with First Bus and partners."

A spokesperson for First Bus added: "We experienced problems with vandalism in the Thorpe Edge area last night and are relieved that no one was seriously hurt or injured as a result of objects being thrown at buses.

"The safety of our staff and customers is our highest priority and we are working closely with the police to investigate the incidents, including the use of on board CCTV footage to help identify the individuals taking part in this reckless action.

"Such behaviour can have very serious consequences and we encourage anyone with information to contact the police or get in touch with Crimestoppers.

"If we have to divert buses or shorten a route it is disrupting the lives of local people in the communities we serve.

"Acts of vandalism cause significant interference to our timetabling arrangements and our service could be withdrawn for the rest of the day and evening or diverted away from the area concerned, disrupting the plans of customers who wish to make their regular journeys.

"While every effort is made to get our vehicle back on the road the next day, sometimes it may be missing from service."

Councillor Brendan Stubbs, who represents the Eccleshill ward on Bradford Council and also serves as leader of the Liberal Democrat group, described the anti-social behaviour as "very disappointing".

"I'm pleased nobody was injured but nobody should have to put up with that when they're driving a bus or travelling in a bus," he added.

"If anyone knows who was involved in this behaviour, I'd urge them to get in touch with West Yorkshire Police or Crimestoppers."
