A CURRY house described as a  "big institution" in Bradford has been shortlisted for a Telegraph & Argus award.

The T&A recently launched its Best Curry House 2024 competition, with readers invited to share their favourite restaurants.

And they did just that as thousands of nominations poured in.

The nominations were then whittled down to 10 and we are now in the process of profiling each of the finalists.

Today is the turn of Great Horton Road-based Mumtaz.

"We are all about quality over quantity. I feel like the customers really recognise that," he said.

"I know we are not the cheapest but it really shows in our product.

"We choose the highest quality ingredients, the best flavours, and really take our time cooking the food.

"I feel like our customers really appreciate that and that is why they keep coming back."

"We were founded in 1979 by Mumtaz himself," Mr Akbar said.

"It was a takeaway at first in the evenings.

"During that time, he used to work in the mills in the mornings, then go to his shop later that day.

"Since then we have continued to expand.

"It has become a big institution in Bradford, especially with the manufacturing we do now."

And the must-have dishes?

"We are really famous for our Masala Fish," Mr Akbar said.

"There is also our Seekh Kebabs and our Chicken Tikka Masala (Murgh Makhani)."
