A DRUG dealer found with cocaine worth more than £3,000 in his bedroom has been sentenced.
Kasim Khan was jailed for 30 months after a court heard that payments totalling £19,000 had gone through his bank account from people buying cocaine.
Prosecutor Victoria Barker told Bradford Crown Court that Khan, now 26, was spotted by police driving a BMW linked to drug-dealing at 1.10am on April 6, 2021, in Hebden Bridge.
When officers pulled him over and searched the car, they found 2.35g of cocaine valued at £94, a small amount of cannabis, £250 in cash, and an iPhone.
Khan also tested positive for cocaine in a roadside test.
A search of his house revealed a further 62.2g of cocaine valued at £3,720.
In a wardrobe, police discovered more cannabis, a bundle of £20 notes totalling £1,250, electronic scales, two mobile phones, clear grip-seal drug bags, and a fully charged and working Taser, which is a prohibited weapon under the Firearms Act.
Text messages on Khan’s iPhone, which were indicative of drug supply, included seeking guidance on mixing and cutting drugs as well as how to sell controlled drugs via social media.
Miss Barker said: “Messages showed that [Khan] was purchasing large weights of cocaine at very regular intervals, and he provided details as to how much he was selling. He said he was selling between five and six ounces per week of cocaine.
“If that was to be sold at £68 per gramme then that equates to about £8,400 per week.”
Khan had also provided his bank details and when his bank records were analysed they showed that deposits had been made that correlated with him providing those details to users in order that they could pay directly into his bank.
The court heard that the messages showed that Khan had been “heavily involved” in drug supply between February 2019 and April 2021 and was in control of a local drug line involving cocaine and cannabis.
In an interview with police Khan gave “no comment” answers. He later pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine, possession of a prohibited weapon, and possession with intent to supply cannabis.
The court heard he had a conviction for possession of an offensive weapon relating to batons found in his home.
Mitigating, John Bottomley said Khan’s cocaine habit had gotten out of hand, and he had started buying in bulk to meet the demands of his addiction.
He said he sold the drug to help pay off those above him in the supply chain who provided him with what he needed.
He described Khan’s position as “not feeding up in the chain. He is being fed down".
Jailing Khan, of Jasmine Gardens, Halifax, for a total of 30 months, Miss Recorder Kama Melly KC said he initially indicated that the drugs found in his car were for his personal use.
She said: “Your address was searched and in there was shown to be a very different picture.
“There were all the items that one would expect to see in a drug dealer’s house [including] 62.2g of cocaine at 74 per cent purity and that has been valued at £3,720.
“A number of telephones were seized and downloaded and those showed that you had been involved in previous drugs supply.
“There was a period of time when you had over £19,000 in your bank account such that it would be hard to indicate that this was drug supply simply to fund your own habit.”
Recorder Melly ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs seized as well as relevant equipment and the taser, and the forfeiture of £1,500 in cash.
