An "excellent" garden centre in Bradford has been named among the best in the UK – is it your local?

Tong Garden Centre has been included in the Daily Mail’s '25 best garden centres' list.

It comes as customers have said the garden centre has “everything you could ever possibly need for your garden under a single roof”.

Introducing the list, the publisher commented: “Who doesn’t love a trip to the garden centre? Whether you’re after colourful winter bedding plants for a hanging basket, a new evergreen shrub for the front garden, or simply a nice cup of tea and a scone, a trip to a horticultural haven is one of the nation’s favourite days out.

“So, from Cumbria to Cardiff, Essex to Inverness, we’ve scoured the nation's garden centres and rated their plant selections and coffee shops to bring you the very best in the UK.”

Why is Tong Garden Centre among UK’s best?

The Daily Mail explained: “Tong is one of a group of four independently owned garden centres in West Yorkshire.

“It was founded in 1984 but had lost its way and needed a change of direction when Tom Megginson and Mark Farnsworth took it over in 2015 and invested £7m into the business.”

Tong Garden Centre was given a score of 8/10 by the publisher for its plant selection, including its variety of bedding plants, hardy trees and shrubs and container plants.

A visit to the Grasshoppers Children’s Play Area and Hearty’s Food Hall was also recommended, “where you will find edible goodies from the ‘Heartisans’”.

But it’s not a complete trip to a garden centre without checking out the cafe, is it?

Tong Garden Centre’s restaurant and kitchen were given a score of 9/10 by the Daily Mail.

“Choose between homemade pies, the famous carvery sandwich and scones with jam and fresh cream in Bloom’s Kitchen, or afternoon tea and light bites in the licensed Mezzanine Restaurant,” it shared.

On Tripadvisor, someone who recently enjoyed food and drink at Tong Garden Centre wrote: “The cafe is great for breakfast, lunch or just coffee/tea and cake . I particularly love their scones, lovely texture with a good amount of fresh cream , jam and fresh strawberries and they are absolutely massive !”
