Talented Yorkshire County Cricket Club teenager Alex Wade has been named in an 18-player squad for an England Men U19s training camp in South Africa.
Last month, Bradford Grammar School pupil Wade, 17, penned his maiden professional contract with Yorkshire, just over a fortnight after making his debut for England Under-19s.
Wade will join up with the squad to train in Stellenbosch from November 25 to December 16 as preparation for the upcoming series against South Africa Men U19s in January and February 2025.
The youngster, who is from Ilkley, will be joined in the U19s training camp by some talented young cricketers with famous fathers, notably Lancashire’s Rocky Flintoff, and Somerset’s Archie Vaughan.
While the talented sons of Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff and Michael Vaughan are the two standout names in the squad, a couple of others also catch the eye.
Kent’s Jaydn Denly is included, as he looks to follow in the footsteps of his uncle, former England international Joe.
Somerset talent Thomas Rew has also been selected, with many around the country calling for his older brother James to be called up to the senior England squad.
As for Wade, he is the only Yorkshire player included in the squad for the camp out in South Africa.
Discussing the talented teenagers at his disposal in Stellenbosch, England Under-19s head coach Michael Yardy said: “It’s an exciting winter for this group of players.
“Firstly, we have this training camp to develop individual skills where we will be very clear on a style of play.
“This is then followed by a competitive series versus South Africa in both white and red ball cricket.”
Yardy should be a hugely positive influence on this young squad, given he spent 17 years in Sussex’s first team.
The all-rounder also played limited overs cricket for England between 2006 and 2011, winning the T20 World Cup with his country back in 2010.
