TWO teenagers who set fire to a historic mill complex - causing £15 million pounds worth of damage - will be sentenced in the New Year.
McKenzie Motron, 18, and a 17-year-old youth who cannot be named for legal reasons were released on conditional bail after a brief hearing at Bradford Crown Court.
Motron, of Mexborough Road, Bradford, and the youth were found guilty of causing a devastating blaze at Dalton Mills in Keighley on March 3, 2022.
Videos downloaded by police from the duo’s mobile phones showed them exploring Grade II*-listed Genappe Mill and finding a small fire, which the youth fed with pieces of a polystyrene gargoyle that may have been left behind by a film crew.
The resulting fire, which quickly spread through the building, involved 20 fire engines and other specialist equipment and needed firefighters on site for three days.
The two were found guilty of arson at Bradford Youth Court in August.
His Honour Judge Ahmed Nadim adjourned the latest hearing until January 6 for psychiatric reports to be prepared.
He told them: “Your case cannot be concluded today. You will be sentenced when you next appear before the court on January 6.
“You will continue to be subject to bail conditions.”
