A CURRY house which has been part of Bradford's fabric for more than six decades and praised by a celebrity chef is in the running for a tasty award.
The Telegraph & Argus recently launched its Best Curry House 2024 contest.
Readers were asked to share their favourite restaurants, with thousands of nominations coming in.
The nominations were narrowed down to 10 - and we are now aiming to profile each of the finalists.
Today we are shining a light on Karachi Restaurant on Neal Street, just on the outskirts of the city centre.
Mumrez Khan, one of the directors there, said: "I am delighted and excited that our business has made it into the top 10.
"Karachi Restaurant first opened its doors in 1963 - it is said that this is the first curry house in Bradford.
"The company is part of Bradford's history.
"Many Bradfordians and customers throughout the country have visited the establishment.
"All have wonderful stories they tell us about the restaurant on a frequent basis."
Mr Khan said the business offers traditional curries, with the recipes altering very little since 1963.
He added: "The working environment is excellent.
"Karachi Restaurant offers flexible employment to the local community and the locals are regular customers.
"The staff members are always smiling and very welcoming to all customers.
"The staff genuinely feel that they are part of history working in this traditional curry house."
Back in April 2002, celebrity chef Rick Stein visited Karachi Restaurant - and returned to the historic venue earlier this year
He had a film crew in tow and Rick tucked into the house speciality - a lamb and spinach Karahi curry.
That featured in an episode of Rick's first Food Heroes series - and the dish's recipe made it into the Cornwall-loving chef's spin-off cookbook.
Mr Khan said: "Since Mr Stein's visits, that particular curry has been our most popular dish."
Don't miss out on your chance to shout up for your favourite curry house as part of our competition.
It really couldn't be simpler to vote for the business you think should win.
All you need to do is fill out the voting form, which can be found in the T&A.
The voting coupon will run in the newspaper until November 9, so there is plenty of opportunity to make sure the curry house you think is the finest is in with a chance of taking the top spot.
