Shipley College received a visit from a hereditary peer last week: John Francis Russell, 7th Earl Russell, grandson of mathematician and philosopher Bertrand Russell and great-grandson of John Russell, the Victorian prime minister.
The current Earl Russell, who is a member of the House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee (ECCC), visited the college as part of the House of Lords Youth Engagement Programme.
Shipley College was one of six schools and colleges chosen from a nationwide application process to participate in the programme.
During the visit, Earl Russell was given a tour of the college by Travel and Tourism students.
He was asked by students about environmental policies, renewable energy, and youth involvement in politics.
Skills coach Esther Moir said: "Earl Russell shared some really detailed answers, and reminded everyone how important it is to think critically."
Earl Russell also explained the work of the ECCC, and the House of Lords' role in legislation and government accountability.
