A CHURCH has been awarded a green grant for a solar project.
Eldwick Church, on Otley Road, Eldwick, has been successful in gaining match funding Church of England’s net-zero 2030 initiative.
The Minister of Eldwick Church, the Rev Brian Greenfield, said: "Working toward carbon net-zero is our way of taking care of the Earth, which we believe is God's creation.
“We plan to put solar panels on the roof of our church hall and storage batteries inside the church, to help with this.
“The solar panels will lower our energy bills, reduce our carbon footprint and make the building better for the future use of the church and community.
“We're aiming to raise £20,000, and with match funding, every pound we collect locally will be doubled”.
The match funding initiative is called Give to Go Green and 47 churches across England are participating.
Eleven of the churches are in the Leeds Diocese. Under the terms of the scheme, the money needs to be raised digitally in a tight six-week window.
In Eldwick’s case, this is between Sunday, October 13, and Saturday, November 23.
The church has already hosted a quiz night with match-funding of £1,000 raised.
