POLICE who arrested a man at his home found he had indecent pictures of children on his mobile phone.

Muhammed Ali, now 20, of Northdale Road, Bradford, was referred to West Yorkshire Police as the user of a Snapchat account uploading child sexual abuse material to the internet in July 2022.

When his phone was examined, it was found to contain 21 images of which four were of Category A, the most serious.

In a police interview Ali initially denied the offences, claiming he would often receive random requests from other people.

He later pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent photographs of a child.

Bradford Crown Court heard that Ali, who was 18 at the time, was immature for his age and lacked in social interaction. He was said to be remorseful and ashamed.

Her Honour Judge Kirstie Watson handed Ali an 18-month community order and said he must undertake 50 rehabilitation activity requirement days and carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.

He was also made the subject of a five-year sexual harm prevention order.

She said: “People often think that this is a victimless crime, but of course it is not because the images that you have looked at have victims by their very nature.

“They may not be victims that you have perpetrated any acts upon, but somebody somewhere has and the only reason those types of images can be circulated is because there is an interest in them.”
