THE jailing of a burglar "who caused misery on the streets of Bradford" has been welcomed.

Earlier this month, Liam Stoyles, of Muirhead Drive in Holme Wood, who broke into city centre premises, including a much-loved bookshop and a church - was sent to prison.

He also stole from a national chain bakery, a coffee shop, and a discount store over a period of less than a month.

The 29-year-old committed nine offences in total from August 20 to September 3 of this year.

Court documents said the offences were "so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified".

They added that Stoyles has a "flagrant disregard for people and their property".

He was sentenced to 36 weeks in prison.

Detective Sergeant Craig Snowden, of Bradford’s District Crime Team, hopes the sentencing "sends a strong message".

He said Stoyles "caused misery on the streets of Bradford" and added: "We welcome the sentence handed down to Stoyles.

"We hope that this sends a strong message to people who commit this type of crime that you will be arrested and brought to justice.

“Burglaries have a huge lasting impact on residents and businesses, and I hope this sentence goes someway in getting them the justice they deserve.”
