A COUNCILLOR has spoken of a community being “shocked to the core” after a young man was stabbed to death in Bradford.

Police were called at 10.29pm on Monday by the ambulance service to reports a man was unconscious with stab wounds.

The police said that the 23-year-old man was taken to hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead.

Councillor Imran Khan (Lab, Bowling and Barkerend) said: “It’s an absolute tragedy that a young man has lost his life.

“It saddens me. My prayers and thoughts are with his family.

“I went up there yesterday, but it’s early days and the police are thoroughly investigating.

“Police need to be allowed to do their job and I’d appeal for anyone who has any information to share it with the police.

“I’d like to urge anyone involved in this incident to turn themselves in to the police.

“It’s not normal for something like this to happen in a residential area and nobody wants to see this kind of thing happening on their doorstep.

“There is a lot of fear involved in an incident like this. You don’t want innocent bystanders to get caught up in it.

“I know this happened at night, but the last thing you want is for children to see the incident.

"Something like this could traumatise them for the rest of their life.

“Barkerend Road is a fantastic area. A lot of families live there.

“When something like this happens on your doorstep, it shocks people to the core.”

West Yorkshire Police said today: "Prior to the stabbing, we have established that an incident of violent disorder took place on Barkerend Road involving a VW Golf which was occupied by Mr Ishfaq.

"The four occupants of the Golf then fled the vehicle and were chased by a group of males, some of them were armed with weapons.

"Luqman Ishfaq was beaten and stabbed on Barlow Street, the suspects then fled the scene.

"Four vehicles have been recovered from the scene for forensic examination."

In a tribute from his family, Mr Ishfaq was described as "a much-loved son, brother and friend to so many".
