Anna Dixon, MP for Shipley, has been appointed to the Public Accounts Select Committee in the House of Commons.

Ms Dixon, who was elected to Parliament in July, becomes the first MP for the Shipley constituency to sit on the committee in 26 years.

The committee's role is to scrutinise government officials, ensuring public funds are spent 'effectively and efficiently.'

Ms Dixon will be responsible for assessing the value for money of various projects.

She said: "It is an honour to serve as a member of the Public Accounts Committee.

"The committee will play a vital role in exposing the failures of the last government and ensuring the effective delivery of Labour’s commitments.

"Having worked as chief analyst in the Department of Health, I understand the challenges of delivering value for money and productivity improvements in public services and government departments.

"After 14 years of Conservative chaos and economic mismanagement, trust in politics has undoubtedly fallen, and I am grateful to have the opportunity as a member of this committee to be part of rebuilding that trust.

"I am looking forward to working constructively and effectively with MPs from across all political parties."

The last Shipley MP to have sat on the committee was Chris Leslie.
