HUNDREDS of people have signed petitions opposing charges for parking permits in Bradford.

Residents across the city will now have to cough up £35 per year when renewing their permits, which were previously free.

Visitors' permits will cost £40 per year, and businesses will be charged £80 per business vehicle.

Many residents and business owners have contacted the Telegraph & Argus to tell of their anger over the charges

At the time of publication, 530 people had signed this petition on the Bradford Council website urging the authority to reconsider its decision.

Meanwhile, nearly 120 people had signed this petition on change.org demanding the charges be scrapped.

That petition states: "We are calling for the immediate removal of the £35 parking permit charge due to the ongoing cost of living crisis, which has left many households struggling to afford basic necessities.

"With rising food, energy and housing costs, many residents are already stretched thin and simply cannot afford additional financial burdens."

A Bradford Council spokesperson said: "We understand the concerns about paying for a permit to park on residential streets.

"However, it is quite common in other local authorities across the country.

"Despite this it is something we have kept free for years while many other Councils have already introduced charges."
