Explorer Scouts in Greengates celebrated their first anniversary.

Launched in September 2023, the unit is part of the Bradford North scouting district, providing activities for young people aged 14 to 17.

The group offers a haven for local children, allowing them to escape the pressures of academics and GCSEs.

In just the first year, the explorers have participated in various activities including orienteering, a cooking challenge competition, and bushcraft skill development.

They have a host of upcoming activities planned, such as a survival camp, shelter building, the "stranded" challenge, and another cooking competition.

Rachel, the lead volunteer for the explorers, said: "We are really pleased to be able to offer a group for 14 to 18-year-olds at 47th Bradford North.

"Engaging young people at this age equips them with skills for life and provides an opportunity for us to work together with young people to shape an interesting and appealing programme.

"Explorers are our future adult leaders, and we are particularly keen to encourage young people to remain with our group as an adult volunteer to pass on their skill sets to future generations."

The unit meets every Wednesday from 8pm to 9.15pm at St John’s Community Church Hall, Greengates.
