A BRADFORD district man who was previously convicted for dealing heroin has avoided jail after committing another drug offence.
Ryan Barnes, of Leylands Lane in Keighley, was stopped by police in an Audi A1 on March 17, 2022, when his manner of driving drew suspicion.
Barnes was argumentative to the officer and said he usually got searched.
Two more officers were called to Worth Way in Keighley and a "significant" amount of cannabis was found in the centre console of the car.
The 25-year-old had 39 grip-seal plastic bags containing a total of 63.7 grams of cannabis and £1086.35 of cash in his possession.
Defending, Paul Canfield said Barnes is now in full-time employment as a ground worker.
He developed a drug debt and addiction after losing his job at a Covid vaccination centre.
Mr Canfield said Barnes had turned his life around since a 2017 offence of drug dealing, and this was a "rather large speed bump".
He has been teetotal for some years and now has two children, aged one and four.
Mr Canfield told His Honour Judge Colin Burn: "I don't think you will be seeing Mr Barnes again."
Judge Burn said Barnes was not just dropping off drugs but taking calls, accepting money, and dealing them.
He had enough cannabis on him to do this on a number of occasions, he said.
Barnes was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, which was suspended for two years, and was given 180 hours of unpaid work.
He pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cannabis.
