‘BINGO is big business,’ reported the T&A on October 8, 1969 when the city’s Top Rank Club opened:

‘Top Rank Clubs provide the best possible facilities for more than eight million regulars hoping to make a fortune. But Bradford Top Rank in Princes Way is unlike its 56 sister clubs. It isn’t just that it’s the most luxurious Top Rank Club in the country, surpassing the excellence of even the Perry Barr Birmingham club. Bradford has the first Rank triple-entertainment centre’.... ‘the second phase of a £370,000 entertainment project which this summer gave the city its twin Odeon Cinemas.

'Seats for 2,000 Bingo devotees in the brightly lit club are decorated in shades of orange, red and coffee. The layout is such that the 2,000th customer at the back has an excellent view of the caller on his rostrum and electronic scoreboard suspended from the roof.

'This very sophisticated piece of engineering indicates instantly the numbers of the plastic balls, enabling players to check their cards as the game progresses.’
