A MOTORWAY has been closed after a lorry overturned on the central reservation and spilled its load.

National Highways: Yorkshire said just after 5pm that the M62 was closed in both directions between junction 29 (M1/Lofthouse) and junction 30 (Rothwell) due to a crash.

It involved a HGV which went over the central reservation from the eastbound carriageway and flipped onto its side.

Motorway cameras show the lorry has spilled a huge load across the westbound carriageway, with a large emergency service presence at the scene.

This is causing huge queues to build not only on the M62 but also on the M1.

Traffic is queueing back to the M621 Interchange on the M1.

Routes through Robin Hood, Rothwell, and Oulton are also heavy as drivers choose alternative routes.

Trapped traffic is currently being released past the scene.
