A healthy eating scheme from Tesco is set to provide Bradford schoolchildren with daily fruit and vegetables.
The initiative, called Tesco Fruit & Veg for Schools, has been developed in partnership with the British Nutrition Foundation and Groundwork UK and will be implemented nationwide.
Carrwood Primary School, Ryecroft Primary Academy, and Farfield Primary and Nursery School will benefit from the scheme in the Bradford area.
The initiative targets schools with a higher-than-average free school meal ratio.
Tesco Group chief executive, Ken Murphy, said: "Our aim is to enable schools to provide enough fruit and veg for every child to have at least one piece every day.
"Tesco Fruit & Veg for Schools will make a real difference by providing something that young people look forward to receiving every day, and we hope it will be another little nudge to get them eating healthy food."
Elaine Hindal, chief executive of the British Nutrition Foundation, said: "We welcome this significant investment from Tesco to help improve the diets of our young people."
Only 12 per cent of children aged between 11 and 18 are currently meeting the five-a-day recommendation, according to government statistics cited by Tesco and available to view at https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/ndns-results-from-years-9-to-11-2016-to-2017-and-2018-to-2019
