BRADFORD Council has approved an initial Flood Warning and Evacuation Plan (FWEP) for Bradford Live.

The FWEP provides a summary of the site's flood risk and gives details about evacuation procedures in the event of any flooding at the Godwin Street building.

The Council approved the FWEP on Tuesday.

According to the document, the FWEP is "intended as a guide" and would be reviewed when an operator is taken on to run Bradford Live, which currently lies empty with no opening date yet known.

The FWEP said Bradford Live falls within an area which is at "medium/high risk" of flooding form Bradford Beck.

"However, flood mitigation measures will reduce the risk and make the development safe for all users," according to the FWEP.

It said flood doors and barriers are provided to protect the building from any flood water.

The electrical switch room and utility chambers are raised to allow water to pass beneath in the event of any flooding.

The FWEP also includes a drawing showing evacuation routes in the building.

"The occupier considerations should include the requirement to postpone activity on-site if a flood event is expected," according to the document.
