POLICE have insisted they are "not there to make money" when carrying out checks to tackle speeding.

Two PCSOs from the Bradford West division of West Yorkshire Police recently monitored motorists' speed in the Toller area of the city

A force spokesperson said the PCSOs' presence had "the desired effect with all motorists adhering to the speed limit".

"This is what we want, contrary to what people think," they added.

"We aren't there to make money, we're there to help reduce the number of speeding motorists and make the roads safer.

"Do your part by adhering to the local ever-changing speed limits and keep your communities safe."

According to the THINK! campaign, speed contributes to around one in four fatal collisions on the country's roads.
