A GROUP of new Level 2 Electrical Installation students were given a guided tour of the transformation work taking place in Bradford city centre.

The tour gave students the opportunity to find out firsthand about technical electrical elements of improvement work re-shaping the city, including street signage, new access bollards, and the processes involved in the work. They also learned about risks and hazards that need to be considered in projects of this nature, as well as the health and safety procedures on such large-scale construction projects.

Work Experience Officer Olivia McCormack said: “The tour was excellent and provided the students with in-depth knowledge about construction projects of this scale.”

The scheme is creating more green and public spaces to make it easier, safer and more pleasant for people to get around the on foot or by bike.

IN line with the new academic year, Bradford College’s unique Ambition [HUB] provision launched with a special welcome event.

Ambition [HUB] is an exclusive Level 3 wraparound programme designed to give students career-focused skills through industry partnerships, work placements and employer-led masterclasses. The provision currently exists across Automotive & Motor Vehicle, Digital, Performing Arts, Sports, Travel & Tourism and Uniformed & Protective Services courses.

At the launch event, students were welcomed to Bradford College and introduced to Ambition [HUB] by Head of Professional Services & Leisure, Furkan Uddin, who said: “This year, we aim to expand Ambition [HUB] and have more courses involved in our masterclasses. Our focus will be on ‘power skills’ like resilience, confidence, communication, collaboration, customer service, innovation, and sustainability - skills highly valued by the employers we work with.

“Students will gain work placements, participate in trips and attend masterclasses. They will also earn accredited digital badges, endorsed by employers, to boost their CVs.”

This was followed by a presentation from SkillsHouse guest speakers, Danny Furness and Charlie Jerram on power skills and the need for them in Bradford: “By collaborating with Ambition [HUB] and Bradford College, we ensure students leave College with both qualifications and a set of essential, transferable skills to prepare them for the world of work. This partnership equips students with the in-demand skills currently missing in the job market, setting them on a path to successful careers.”

Exciting opportunities available to students this academic year are:

* Automotive & Motor Vehicle students will contribute to the JCT600 car show.

* Digital students will take on employer projects in chatbot development, web design and social media marketing.

* Performing Arts students will collaborate with The Light Cinema and Royal Shakespeare Company.

* Sports students will work with West Yorkshire Sport and professional clubs.

* Travel & Tourism students will explore Responsible Travel and gain hands-on experience with hotel takeovers and event planning.

* Uniformed & Protective Services students will engage in community service, emergency service shows and practical skills training like water survival and firefighting.

Students shared their experiences, showcasing the value of skills gained through the provision. At the close of the event, all students received a branded Ambition [HUB] hoody.
