With autumn comes crisp and frosty days, as the late October and November sun shines from above.
But where do you like to go for an autumnal walk in West Yorkshire?
We decided to ask our readers on the Telegraph and Argus Facebook page to suggest their favourite places to watch the leaves change colour, from green to golden brown.
From parks to ancient woods, here is a selection of the best autumn walks in the region, chosen by you – time to wrap up warm and head out for some fresh air.
Judy Woods
Did you know this ancient woodland has been around for 10,000 years and covers an area of 40 hectares?
Judy Woods is also the “largest continuous public woodland area in the district,” according to Bradford District Parks.
No wonder some of our readers hailed it as one of their favourite places for an autumn walk.
Bradford District Parks explains: “Visitors walking through Judy Woods will be welcomed by the towering beech trees that can be found at the south end of Station Road.
“With many pathways kept in good condition, visitors can explore the streams as they wind in and out of the branches and converge in the beck lying in the depths of the wood.”
Tripadvisor wrote: “First visit and it won’t be the last super place to walk the dogs or just walk alone I came to photography nature great colours lovely light the a [sic] couple of streams a small waterfall no litter very well kept by friends of Judy woods.”
A visitor onOgden Water
This local nature reserve was also mentioned a handful of times by residents in West Yorkshire, among the top suggestions for an autumn walk in the region.
It’s said to “offer excellent opportunities to escape from the stresses and strains of everyday life” and is a “very popular” destination for picnics, walking, family outings and nature activities, as reported by Visit Calderdale.
The tourist website adds: “There is a lovely level footpath around Ogden Water and three longer walks from the site.”

Someone who recently visited Odgen Water wrote on Google reviews: “One of the most beautiful spots around. Perfect for a short visit or a while day off walking. One of the easiest walks is just around the perimeter of the reservoir and is about a mile and a half. There are also plenty of opportunities to wander off through the woods or take some of the longer and steeper paths.
“There are plenty of benches to sit and enjoy during your visit and nice picnic benches near the café and public toilets.”
West Wood (Calverley)
One Telegraph and Argus reader shared they think West Wood is a “special” place to go for an autumnal stroll in West Yorkshire.
Once the garden of an “impressive” Victorian house, West Wood is a site with “lots of quirky secrets to uncover,” shares the Woodland Trust website.
It continues: “Look out for an old walled garden, hidden grottoes, and many more historical features.
“The vibrant history of the site, including an explosion in a firework factory, all add to the charm of West Wood.
“Today, the serene woodland is a haven for woodland birds whose songs fill the summer air.”
Roberts ParkÂ
Not only has Roberts Park been recommended as one of the best areas for a stroll in autumn by our Facebook followers (including the canal walk nearby which “can’t be beaten”), but it’s a “must-visit for nature lovers and history enthusiasts,” as stated by Visit Bradford.
Roberts Park is also “the perfect place” for family fun, with a picnic area, playground, skate park, tree-lined promenade, bandstand, alpaca statues, cricket ground and the Half Moon Café.
