A MUCH-LOVED father of two who died while on holiday in Italy is being returned home to Bradford after the community raised more than £30,000 towards the cost of repatriating his body.
Bradley Greenwood, 32, suddenly died after he reportedly lost control of his motorbike and hit a pole.
The tragic incident took place when Bradley and seven of his friends were motorbiking across the Amalfi Coast.
He leaves behind two children, Aveyah, seven, and Zack, four, who he shared with his fiance and partner of almost 12 years, Jodie O’Connor.
His death has not just left the family devastated but sent shockwaves across the district.
Jodie, who described Bradley as her soulmate, said he “lived and breathed” for their children and enjoyed adventures around the world.
She recalled memories of Bradley blow drying his daughter’s hair “like she was a princess” at their home in Queensbury.
The couple were looking to buy a farm - where they could keep a horse - before making a start on wedding planning.
Speaking about their love, she said: “I literally could read his mind. We went on some really special holidays. We got engaged in Mexico on the beachfront. He was really scared to ask me. He waited until two days to come home. He said, ‘this lucky lucky man just asked for something’ and he opened this blue pot. I’d seen the ring and he got down on one knee.
“We still did a lot together even though we had children. We went to the Dominican Republic. Every couple of weeks we went on date nights to have some time to ourselves.
“We always took the children on holiday every year to the caravans.
“He really was my soulmate.”
Jodie added: “He was a good, caring dad.
“His kids were always put first. My little girl had him wrapped around her little finger. He spoiled them absolutely rotten. He’s even bought them a buggy for Christmas that they don’t know about - he didn’t know this was going to happen. He just lived and breathed for his children.”
Speaking about Bradley and their son, she said: “He’s actually got his dad’s middle name but it should be his first name because it’s just him.”
The keen motorbike and car enthusiast made friends around the globe - including Germany and Dubai.
An engineer by trade, he also worked as a recovery truck driver and fixed up second hand cars.
His friendship group previously went on a motorbike holiday to Romania.
“He was a fun loving character,” Jodie said.
“He loves anything that has an engine - cars, bikes, quads. Since he was born he just loved bikes, anything to do with bikes.
“He’s left such a mark. Live life to the fullest. He’d want everybody not to be sad. He’d want everyone to live for him.”
The couple’s long time friend Chelsea Greenwood, who set up the GoFundMe page towards the travel arrangements from Italy, said the tragedy has been “unbearable”.
She said: “The way he looked at her [Jodie], he’d always do anything she asked him to do. He changed his life around for her. It was instant. They were soul mates. They were so much in love with each other.
“Them two was meant to be together. It’s absolutely ripped her world apart. It’s just unbearable.
“He absolutely worshipped the ground that both children walked on. He was one of the most amazing dads.”
Chelsea added: “He loved life and valued every moment. He was the life and soul of every room. He’s just going to be so missed. Nothing will ever be the same.
“He’s always loved bikes and cars. He grew up around horses. He’s always rode something! His mum and his nana have lots of horses.”
The fundraiser saw £33,376 donated towards the cost of flying Bradley back to the UK.
Almost 400 people got involved in the fundraiser.
Bradley is due to arrive in Bradford on Friday (October 4), Jodie said, while the funeral arrangements can now begin.
It marks two weeks since Bradley’s death on September 19.
“It’s hard enough organising a funeral, nevermind trying to organise them coming in from a different country,” Chelsea said.
“We were absolutely blown away [by the fundraising total].”
In an update on the page, Jodie said: “Thank you for everyone’s kindness through the hardest week of my life. I appreciate everyone’s kind words, love and truly grateful for everyone’s contributions.”
