IN MANY parts of England and Wales rainfall figures for September broke records.
Thankfully, Yorkshire was not hit as hard as many spots in the south and west of the UK, which witnessed flash floods that caused flooding in homes and businesses and severe disruption to transport networks.
Here’s a look back to autumn 2012, when we suffered locally after a prolonged deluge. This picture was taken at the edge of the River Aire at Ireland Bridge, which was under threat from raging floodwaters. That tree trunk rising out of the torrent looks capable of doing a fair bit of damage to anything that crosses its path.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that October brings better weather - some crisp, sunny autumn days would lift everyone’s spirits.
