TRADITIONAL iron bollards have been returned to the city centre as part of ongoing streetworks.
The historic cast iron bollards, which feature an image of the Bradford boar on them, had been located on the junction of Market Street and Bank Street.
The features were removed due to that area of the city being pedestrianised.
Now the heritage features have been installed on Kirkgate, at its junction with Ivegate.
The latest update on the city centre works from Balfour Beatty says: “This is part of our wider commitment to reuse materials in a sustainable way, whilst respecting the heritage of the city centre.”
More areas of the city centre have also been re-opened this week, after being blocked off by fencing for months.
The junction of Bridge Street and Bank Street is one of the newly pedestrianised areas to have been opened up.
Balfour Beatty says there is still work to do in these areas, adding: “Finishing touches will include the installation of street furniture and the planting of greenery in the new ground level and raised planters. “The new spaces that we're creating are only for pedestrian use, and will make the city centre a more attractive place for people to live, work and spend time.”
The work, first announced in 2020, is being funded through the Government’s Transforming Cities Fund.
