A BRADFORD man has spoken about being honoured to have his debut film to be included as part of the Bradford UK City of Culture 2025 celebrations.
Sabir Hussain, aka Saby Khan, of Shipley, is shooting a short film this month in Bradford.
“I’m shooting a short film, a spy thriller called Shadow of Doubts, for the UK City of Culture,” said Saby, who is the film’s screenwriter, co-director and executive producer. “It’s my debut movie.
“I’ve been in the music industry for the past 30 years, said Saby, 49, who is originally from East Morton near Keighley.
“Most of my work is done in Bradford.
“Shadow of Doubts is being shot in Bradford locations including Bradford Salvage Company and in the city centre as well as in Colne, Lancashire.
He said Yorkshire-based Bob Jordan from Obverse Films will be co-directing the film.
Saby said he is submitting the 15-minute film to 12 different international film festivals.
He also spoke about what it means for the film to be featured as part of the City of Culture festivities.
“I’m grateful and honoured for it to be part of the Bradford UK City of Culture 2025.
“The City of Culture provides such a great opportunity for young artists to promote their work.
“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for artists to express themselves.
“Bradford always seems to get sidelined as everything always used to go to Leeds or Sheffield.
“The City of Culture coming to Bradford sent shockwaves across the North.
Although Shadow of Doubts is Saby’s first film, he has had experience working on other films, including 2004 film Yasmin, written by Simon Beaufoy.
“I worked on the project and helped as a location supervisor.
“Bradford is a good place for filming. You have some beautiful locations in the district.
“More feature films should be shot in Bradford. It should be higher on the list for filmmakers.”
Saby also said: “I’ll be launching a web series based in Bradford as my next project.”
He said the premise of the story involves a drug addict who wants to become a musician.
Saby is also working on a horror movie to be shot in New York
“It’ll be about British Asian families living in Tong and Manningham, and it will address some of the barriers that people have to deal with in the Asian community.”
Saby also spoke about how he was recently “honoured to be selected” as a judge for the Golden Nugget International Film Festival in New York.
"I was one of just three people from over 80 to be chosen for the judging panel.
"The aim is to find new talent – 'golden nuggets' – and help connect them with experienced people within the industry.”
