WORK to knock down a huge block of flats on a Bradford estate is nearly finished.

Demolition work on York House, on Idlethorp Way in Thorpe Edge, began in early August.

Pictures taken by the Telegraph & Argus today show the project is now almost complete.

"It was an iconic building.

"You could see it for miles - when you saw it, you always knew you were nearly home."

Jacky, who has taken pictures and filmed video throughout the demolition work, previously told the T&A: "York House was a lovely building in the earlier years but now for some people it's a blessing it's getting demolished.

"If walls could talk what stories would be told..."

Last year, an application to demolish the building, which included 112 flats and a shop, was submitted.

Stephanie Marley, head of development at Incommunities, said: "We are actively developing new plans for the site once it has been cleared.

"As these plans take shape, we look forward to engaging with the local community and sharing further details in the near future."
