SMILES were put on poorly youngsters' faces as part of a charitable initiative to celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad earlier this month.

Nazim Ali, of Manningham, organised the second annual Mawlid in the City campaign, which saw more than 30 gifts given to youngsters on Airedale Hospital's children ward.

The initiative was backed by Bradford-based Saveco Cash and Carry.

Nazim said: "The gifts were for all children in the ward irrespective of faith.

"We realise this is a period of reflection for Muslims.

"However, it is also a period where we should reflect and support the most vulnerable in society.

"To this end we felt the need to make a proactive difference."

Meanwhile, roses were handed out to nursing staff at Airedale Hospital and members of the public in Keighley town centre.

"So many people were touched by the gesture.

"It truly was wonderful to see the smiles galore."

Around 180 three-course meals and treats were also provided to the homeless and needy at the Nazim Ali Foundation Khidma Community Kitchen at the Millan Centre, Manningham.

Over the last 27 years, Nazim has raised almost £975,000 for good causes and been involved in charitable initiatives locally and internationally.
