A three-time Olympic diver returned to his former school recently to inspire students in an assembly.

Yona Knight-Wisdom, who has represented Jamaica in three Olympic Games, visited The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) on Friday, September 20.

In an assembly delivered to both the school's primary and senior pupils, the athlete - who captained his team during the Paris games this summer - shared his journey and offered advice to aspiring sportspeople.

Mr Knight-Wisdom recounted his journey from a young student at GSAL to becoming the first male diver to represent Jamaica at the Olympics, and discussed the importance of perseverance, resilience, and self-belief.

He said: "It feels incredible to come back to where it all started.

"This school gave me a strong foundation not just in sports but in life.

"If I can inspire just one student to chase their dreams, whether in diving or any other pursuit, then I feel like I've given back to the community that supported me."

GSAL principal Sue Woodroofe said: "We were delighted to welcome Yona back to GSAL.

"His journey from our classrooms to the global stage is truly inspiring.

"He is a shining example of what can be achieved with dedication and determination.

"Yona's story will no doubt inspire our pupils to aim high in their own passions and pursuits."

In particular, Mr Knight-Wisdom's assembly inspired Year 7 pupil Edgar, who dreams of following in the athlete's footsteps and who said that seeing him was "amazing."
