Electric car drivers may be more likely to get matches on dating apps, a new study has found.

The study, conducted by MoneySuperMarket, saw the comparison site create identical dating profiles on various apps, where the only difference was the cars featured in the profile.

Profiles with no car have a match rate of, on average, 6 per cent for male profiles and 49 per cent for female profiles, according to MoneySuperMarket.

When a car was added to the profile, men's match rates nearly doubled to 12 per cent on average, while women's increased by around one tenth to 56 per cent.

The study also found that electric cars were popular, with profiles featuring EVs - such as Tesla or Polestar models - "attracting an average of 15 per cent more swipes than others, rising to as much as 86 per cent more for our male dating profiles."

A number of car brands led to lower match rates than no car at all when featured in a dating profile.

They included Dacia, Nissan, MG, Vauxhall, Seat, and Skoda.

When it came to female profiles, sporty vehicles and coupes performed slightly better than other cars, while for male profiles, SUV vehicles were favoured.
