BRADFORD College is delighted to have recently received the Quality in Careers Standard.

As defined by Quality in Careers, this is the national quality award for careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) in secondary schools, colleges and work-based learning.

It is ‘strongly recommended’ by, and fully complies with, the Department for Education’s statutory guidance.

This prestigious accreditation reflects the College’s ongoing commitment to transforming student lives through high quality support in careers and employability. Led by Dina Mistry (Team Lead) under the department of Nick Scaife (Head of Student Services), the award comes as well-deserved recognition for a team who strive to offer an exceptional service to anyone who knocks on their door.

Speaking about the dedication and success of Dina and her team, Nick Scaife said: “This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of our Careers team, who continually ensure that student experience remains at the centre of everything we do.

“Every interaction is carefully designed to support and empower students on their individual journeys, helping them make informed decisions about their future.

“The team’s focus on student progress and destinations has been key in ensuring that both our Further and Higher Education students leave Bradford College with the skills, confidence, and guidance needed to succeed in their chosen paths. “This achievement not only highlights the quality of our careers service, but also reinforces our ongoing commitment to providing the highest level of support and opportunities to all students as they transition into further education, employment or training.”

Also commenting on behalf of the College, Jess Leech (Assistant Principal Students) said: “The Quality in Careers Standard is regarded nationally as evidence of a high-quality careers provision and best practice in meeting the needs of our learners in supporting their progression to further learning, training and the world of work.

“We’re exceptionally proud to have received this prestigious award, which is testament to the hard work and determination of the team.”

* New and returning students were welcomed back to campus with a bang last Wednesday, as Freshers’ 2024 took place - organised by the Bradford College Students’ Union.

Nearly 1800 students visited the special university-style event - around 700 more than last year - to engage in a wide range of stalls and activities as part of a full-day schedule.

Ruth Buxton-Cook (Student Engagement Coordinator) said: “We are so proud of the outcome, and the response from students has reminded the Personal Development Team exactly why we do our job! We planned and executed an inclusive and exciting day for all Bradford College students; it was a huge success.

“Freshers’ creates a real sense of belonging for all students who attend, creating positivity and ensuring students kick start the year in the best way possible.

Around 60 organisations from across West Yorkshire were in attendance providing vital information to students, including Mind Bradford, Bradford Literature Festival, Locala Sexual Health.

* Parts of the Bradford College estate have recently undergone a vital Sustainability Audit, as progress towards College sustainability objectives continue to gather pace.

The audit was overseen by expert Climate Action Advisors from Let’s Go Zero, taking place across a full day accompanied by Chelsie Naylor (College Sustainability Lead).

Speaking about the special inspection, Chelsie said: “The audit involved a comprehensive review of the College's current sustainability practices, identifying strengths and areas for improvement. The process is crucial as it provides a detailed assessment of the College's environmental impact and highlights actionable steps to enhance sustainability efforts.

“The findings from this audit will play a pivotal role in shaping Bradford College's Climate Action Plan, ensuring that the institution can effectively reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future.”

The visitors engaged with various key College figures throughout the process, as they undertook a number of studies to aid with a Net Zero target of 2050.

This is just the latest initiative in a long line as the College puts saving the planet at the top of their agenda.
