A FOOD masterclass, aimed at teaching students to cook nutritious and affordable meals, was conducted in the food technology kitchen of a Manningham school recently.
The 'Cook to Eat' masterclass, organised by BEAP Community Partnership, took place at One in a Million School and was led by chef Nazrul Islam.
10 to 15 pupils attended the session to learn about food preparation, budgeting, and the history of the spice trade, with a focus on Bangladesh.
Turmeric, coriander, and chili powder were among the masterclass's featured ingredients.
Each student received recipe sheets, a history of the spice trade, and handouts on nutrition and food budgeting.
The session concluded with the students tasting their dishes and taking the remaining portions home to share with their families.
One of the students said: "It was my first time cooking tonight.
"I didn't know some of the ingredients existed until I attended the cooking masterclass."
Another said: "I really enjoyed the cooking class.
"I have never made any Bangladeshi food before.
"It was delicious and I really enjoyed the whole experience cooking with ingredients from scratch."
