AN amateur football side from the local area has folded after facing difficulties with squad availability.

Bingley Town FC, who played football in the Skipton and Craven District Premier League, has made the decision to discontinue its first team moving forward.

The club has faced a number of challenges in recent times, including player availability, whilst they’ve also had the challenge of hunting for a new manager since the start of September.

The general nature of keeping amateur sides afloat, particularly in today’s economy, has also contributed to the club’s difficult decision.

Bingley were sat at the foot (9th) of the Craven League’s Premier Division after three games of the competitive season.

It’s yet to be seen what will happen with Bingley Town’s feeder team, Bingley Juniors.

Town commented via their social media pages on Tuesday: “It’s with great sadness that we can confirm Bingley Town will no longer continue as a football club.

“We would like to place on record a huge thanks to all the volunteers who have helped the club run throughout its history.

“To all of our sponsors and to all the players that have pulled on the red and black jersey. We wish all the best to the current squad and hope you are able to find new clubs.”

One person commented: “I’m gutted.

“BTFC was a huge part of my footballing life. I crossed paths with some top people and made many amazing memories.”

Another person said: “It’s a shame that this great and humble club vanishes. I had some good memories and matches, shared with cracking people.”

Several amateur clubs from the area have also given their condolences following the announcement.

Addingham FC said: “Sorry to see this. It’s a tough job maintaining a club at the moment. If anyone is looking for a club to land at, our DMs are open. Volunteers are also welcome.”

Oxenhope Recreation FC said: “That's a dear shame, another local well-established club going to the wall.

“If any of your players are looking for a club, our DMs are open. And we are always looking for volunteers.”

Baildon Trinity Athletic said: “Sorry to hear this; when we played you last year you seemed to have a good set of lads.

“It seems that amateur football is struggling and getting youngsters involved is harder than ever before. We are in a similar boat and share the struggles you have gone through.

“If any players/support staff etc are looking for a local club, please feel free to reach out to us, as we’d welcome you with open arms.

“We share the same values and ethos to try and keep a local route open to adult football.”
