There were 91 per cent more cases of ticket fraud reported to West Yorkshire Police in 2023 than in 2021, according to research by Lucia.
Data, obtained via a Freedom of Information request made by Lucia to the UK's official place to report fraud and cyber crime, Action Fraud, indicated that the number of ticket fraud reports to the force was 142 in 2021, and 271 in 2023.
The average loss per victim in West Yorkshire (using West Yorkshire Police data), in the four years from 2021 to 2024, was reported to be £993 - a figure higher than those associated with North Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Police, or Humberside Police.
Across Yorkshire and the Humber, there were 280 reports of ticket fraud made in 2021, and 525 made in 2023.
From January to May 2024, there were 245 such reports made across Yorkshire and the Humber.
